There was hate in this killer.

A thirst for obliteration rather than a mere desire to end life…

A brutal murder takes place in the grounds of a Liverpool cathedral. A killer is on the loose, driven by a chilling rage. The victim: the last person you’d expect to be subjected to such terrible violence. Can DS Nathan Cody crack the case before another innocent is chosen?

This is book 2 in the series of Cody world and I do can’t wait to see what happened in this book! There is one thing that excites me about David Jackson’s books and that is the characters Cody and Webley. They are so loveable and I like getting to know about Cody’s past and his feelings.

After the first 3 murders I thought I had a idea of who was the murderer but I was so wrong when Cody put 2 and 2 together. Then I realised who the murderer was and I was really shocked and I was surprised by the plot twist. After Cody went through all the points I realised there was small subtle hints throughout the story but I totally went for the wrong person!

I love the background story about the clowns and how it was affecting Cody. What did they want with him? Did they want to hurt him? When he gets the phone call during the night from the clowns I was literally squirming reading it:

“It’s time to play!”

But after that nothing really happens with the clowns again and I was a bit disappointed by this. I got my hopes up then they got squashed.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story but was waiting for something to happen with the clowns. The storyline was an improvement from the first book on the series. So I gave the book 4 stars. (-1/2 star) for getting my hopes up about the clowns. (-1/2star for being a bit slow in the middle with the chasing around and it leading to dead ends.
